Understanding How the Transcription Language Is Set
Currently, transcription defaults to English or to the language of your browser's region. Our team is looking at improvements to make choosing a language easier.
Knowing the Current Limitations
It's completely normal for clinicians and patients to switch between languages during an appointment. At the moment, though, transcription works best when one language is spoken throughout.
If the language changes partway through a session, some of the conversation may not be picked up or may be transcribed inaccurately. This is a current limitation that the team is actively working on.
Troubleshooting Transcription Issues
"I spoke a supported language, but it isn't transcribing properly"
A few things can affect this. Check the following:
- Was more than one language spoken? This is the most common cause. Switching languages mid-session can mean parts of the conversation are missed.
- What is your browser's language or region set to? Because transcription defaults to English or your browser region, a mismatch with the language being spoken can affect results.
- How clear is the audio? Background noise, distance from the microphone or people speaking over each other can reduce accuracy in any language.
"Some parts of the transcript are missing"
This is usually caused by audio or by a change in language partway through. To help CoTreat pick up the full conversation:
- Use a clip-on microphone. It sits closer to you and the patient, so it picks up more of the conversation than a device microphone across the room.
- Where possible, keep the main clinical discussion in one language.
- Review the note and add any missing details before finalising.
"The transcript shows incorrect words"
The transcript is a raw record of what was heard, so it can show words that are misspelled or look slightly off. This doesn't necessarily mean your note is wrong. CoTreat uses the context of the whole conversation to understand the intended words and language, so the generated note is often more accurate than the raw transcript.
When checking accuracy, review the generated note first rather than the transcript. If the note itself is missing or misrepresenting information, let us know.
